SCAM
ALERT:
Don't Get Hooked by a "Phishing" Scam
One of the fastest growing frauds today is referred to as " phishing ". It is a high-tech bogus e-mail scam that uses legitimate material, such as a credit union's web-site graphics or logo to entice unsuspecting members into divulging personal information, such as account numbers, credit/debit card numbers, and social security numbers.
Financial institutions, government agencies, retailers, credit card companies, and many other organizations have seen their web-site graphics plus other materials stolen by fraudsters intent on tricking individuals into divulging personal financial information by responding to an official-looking, but entirely bogus, e-mail.
Tips to avoid getting hooked :
- Don't open an e-mail or pop-up message that asks for personal information. Legitimate companies don't ask for this information via e-mail.
- Telephone the organization identified, using a number you know to be legitimate.
- Review credit card and financial account statements as soon as you receive them for unauthorized transactions.
- Resist urge to immediate respond to suspicious e-mail. Ask yourself why the information requested would really be needed.
Report suspicious activity to the FTC and alert the organization identified in the suspicious e-mail. Forward phishing spam to spam@uce.gov . If you believe you have been scammed, file a complaint at www.ftc.gov . You can visit www.ftc.gov/spam to learn other ways to avoid e-mail scams.
Credit union members should never provide their personal information in response to an unsolicited telephone call, fax, letter, e-mail, or internet advertisement.
Dormant Account Policy
And
Inactive Fee Notice
Policy and law requires Georgia Power Valdosta Federal Credit Union to periodically identify its dormant accounts. A dormant/inactive account is either a share/savings or share draft/checking account that has had no transaction activity initiated by the member for a period of 2 years, and the member has not contacted the credit union during this same period of time.
Members who have had no activity to there accounts with the credit union during this 2 year period of time with share account balances less than $100.00 were recently identified and sent a letter informing them of the status of their account and what would be required to avoid having a dormant/inactive account fee of $5.00 assessed to their account. You have until September 25th to act.
Under the Federal Credit Union Act and in accordance with the bylaws of Georgia Power Valdosta Federal Credit Union, members are required to maintain a minimum balance of $5.00, one share, in the regular share account. If the dormant/inactive account fee causes the member's balance to drop below minimum, the account will be closed.
